Power. Presence. Purpose.

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly." The other man said, "What is the name of the restaurant?" The first man thought and thought and finally said, "What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know... the one that is red and has thorns." "Do you mean a rose?" "Yes," the man said. He turned toward the kitchen and yelled, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

“And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” I Sam. 17:33-37

Sometimes we forget some really important stuff and I don’t mean names, anniversaries or birthdays! No, sometimes in the heat of battle, we forget about God’s power. He is a loving God that is able to defeat anything life can throw at us. We can also forget about God’s presence. He is a loving God Who cares about the things we care about. David said, “The Lord, Who delivered me ..” When David was in danger, the Lord was there! He took care of David, protecting him and providing for him.

Sometimes, we forget God’s Purpose.

“Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand...that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then
all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.” I Sam. 17:45-47

Sometimes, we just need to remember! Remember God’s purpose; it’s bigger than having a good time, earning a living, getting that degree, or buying that new car! “… that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel!” That’s why we’re here! That’s why we go through the battles of life! That the world may know about our God and Savior. Don’t let your circumstances rob you of God’s joy and His best. Remember His power, His presence, and His purpose! If you’re still breathing, there is a place to serve Him!
