The Joy of Serving

I read about a physician who told this story about her then-four-year-old daughter. On the way to preschool, the doctor had left her stethoscope on the car seat, and her little girl picked it up and began playing with it. Be still, my heart, my daughter wants to follow in my footsteps! Then the child spoke into the instrument: "Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?"

I Corinthians 12:12, 18-19: “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ….. But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?”

It takes all kinds, doesn’t it? Just like we saw all kinds of little costumes at our Fall Festival, from mermaids, to dinosaurs, to video game characters with tutus (What in the world!?), to a State Farm agent; we had over 100 church members volunteering that night. They did everything from passing out candy from their trunk, to making snow cones, cooking hot dogs, popping corn, serving water, to playing games and passing out cakes! It was insane, but it was awesome seeing the Body of Christ serving our community. To me, it was a taste of heaven because every age of our church was represented as we came together to serve for the glory of God! And I just know the Father was so proud of His children working together to honor Him!

There was no budget. To my knowledge, there was even less awareness of the need. But when I announced a meeting at our church for anyone interested in serving a meal every Monday night to anyone in our community that was hungry, we had 35 show up and 5 more that wanted to be there! I wish I could say that I had daring faith, but I was expecting about 5! After a year of “God's Table,” we have served over 3,000 meals and over 100 members have volunteered! Most who serve are regulars and some come on their nights off! I am blessed beyond measure to have been a tiny part of this ministry THAT STILL DOES NOT RECEIVE ANY BUDGET monies from our church! All donations come from people who care about others! You bless me every week as you cook, clean and serve with such love for God and others and the JOY! This is what serving The Lord is all about. Oh yeah, and the food is delicious! So, if you believe God is leading you to do something, I dare you to trust Him and join Him in His work! God is good!
