On a four-year-old's first trip to Disneyland, she couldn't wait to get on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. As the car zoomed through the crazy rooms, into the path of a speeding train, and through walls that fell away at the last second, she clutched the little steering wheel in front of her. When the ride was over, she said to me a little shakily, "Next time, you drive. I didn't know where I was going.”
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” Psalms 37:4-5
Every one of us come to a time in our lives where we realize we don’t know where we are going, though we can put on a good front. We know in our hearts that there has to be a better way, but sometimes we’re just so stubborn and proud that we endure the frustration and the pain even when we’re introduced to a better way - the Way. We must do more than just hear. We must trust in the Lord, commit our way to Him, and then He will bring it to pass or give us the desires of our heart - true peace.
I preached on grandparents this past Sunday. I’m still learning. I sure haven’t figured it out! My 3-year-old grandson arrived yesterday afternoon, and when I was walking away, he sprayed me with the water hose! I guess that was justice for sharing pictures of him eating with a passion during the sermon. None of us have figured out how to live the perfect Christian life, but it starts with delighting ourselves in the Lord or loving Him with a passion and trusting Him to lead and guide our lives!
