How do we help the down and out in our community? That is a question that troubles me often. Throughout my ministry, God has placed me in positions where I saw and worked with organizations striving to accomplish that objective. Some were more harmful than helpful. Organizations that see the downtrodden as just needing a handout actually do more harm than good. Handouts without mentoring on work ethic, handling finances, and getting out of abusive lifestyles breeds dependency. FBC Sanger has a mandate from God to make disciples starting in Sanger and reaching out to the entire world.

John and I have been talking and praying for God’s plan to serve our community and reach out to the hurting. God has been opening some possible doors for us to serve those who are outside the economic and power structures of our society. At this point, I can only say that we see God moving; we just aren’t sure exactly where He is moving us to. That is both a scary and exciting time. Join us in praying for God to point us in the right direction. Remember the lessons of Experiencing God: see where God is working and join Him. We want to join God, not try to lead Him because trying to lead God never works out very well!
